February 8, 1934 ~ January 11, 2018

Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend returned home to his loving Heavenly Father and family on Sunday, January 11, 2018, at the age of 83.

George Chancy Hamblin was born on February 8, 1934, in Clearfield, Utah, to Peter Richard Hamblin and Leda Lavon Jones.

He grew up in Clearfield where he learned the values of honesty, integrity, hard work and service to others. He attended schools in Davis County and graduated from Davis High School.

He began his career in the grocery business working for Homer's Market in Clearfield. He then accepted an offer of employment with Albertson's Food Stores, where he fulfilled a long and distinguished career and retired as a Division Vice President.

His love of the grocery business was deeply ingrained and he started his second career as the owner and operator of Hamblin's Foodtown in Syracuse, Utah. He was instrumental in starting the public concessions and attractions at Buffalo Point on Antelope lsland.

Many values were taught and many lives were changed and enriched during these wonderful years. He served on the board of directors for the Associated Grocers Association and the Uintah Lands Association.

He spent considerable time serving the community of Syracuse and the Syracuse Historical Committee.

His greatest enjoyment came from spending time with his family. Family vacations at Bear Lake and time spent at the cabin, baseball games in the backyard, coaching, hunting, fishing, golfing and hosting family parties were treasured times. Attending countless ball games and dance and piano recitals with family members were times to be cherished.

He married his eternal sweetheart, Marian Ann Cook, on July 11, 1952. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. At the time of his passing, they had been married for 65 years.

George was a kind, considerate and loving husband, and father of four children.

George was an active and faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

He served in numerous callings in the wards and stakes in which he resided, including Ward Clerk, Elders Quorum presidency, High Priests group leadership, Home Teacher and stake employment specialist.

Together they served for five years as church service missionaries at the Salt Lake Conference Center.

He was a wonderful and selfless man who showed love and compassion to all of the people that entered his life. It is with a tender heart and a deep sadness that we say a temporary goodbye to a loving husband, devoted father, caring grandparent and incredible friend.

He is survived by his wife, Marlan; children: George {Sharon) Hamblin, Gary (Janet) Hamblin, and Kristine (Kevin) Tracy: 10 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by sisters, Norma (Larry) Ashdown and Kate Hutchison.

He is preceded in death by his infant daughter, Cynthia Ann Hamblin; parents, Peter Richard and Leda Lavon Jones Hamblin; and brother, Lloyd Hamblin.

A viewing will be held on Friday, January 19, 2018, at Myers Mortuary from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 20, 2018, at 11 a.m. at the Myers Mortuary, 5865 South 1900 West, Roy, Utah.

The family wishes to extend their thanks to Beehive Homes of Syracuse and to Brighton Hospice for their tender and loving care and support.

Interment will be in the Syracuse City Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family wishes for donations to be made to the L.D.S. missionary fund or the charity of your choice.
